Our History

1927

White Oak United Methodist Church traces its roots to the summer of 1927, when a tent revival at the corner of Memorial Drive and Lyndon Avenue inspired the founding of the first church in the area. Fifty-five charter members established White Oak Methodist Episcopal, South, and the first service in “The Tabernacle” was held that December.

2002

Dr. Nancy Martin led a Pastor’s Retreat for six ministers from a church in New Jersey, guiding them through a transformative process of heart healing. During the retreat, she witnessed miracles and changes that only God could facilitate. The experience was so impactful that the pastors later created a video testimonial to share the profound value of the program.

2017

The Chattanooga Center for Grief Recovery continues the legacy of Sunrise at Midnight, a 20+ year nonprofit ministry dedicated to healing through grief recovery and counseling, founded by the late Dr. Nancy Martin. In partnership with White Oak United Methodist Church in Red Bank, Tennessee, the Center extends its outreach to serve both the Christian and broader community with compassion and hope.
